CRITA

with a well-marked r that couldn't be more Sicilian - like the clay that becomes the essential raw material of our creations, like the land that saw us born, like the Sicily that made you fall in love.

This dream was born from the idea of a group of friends, Davide and Livio, Sicilians by birth, and Matthias, Austrian by birth but Sicilian by love. Crita was born from our desire to experiment with new aesthetics, anchored in the tradition of a city whose name alone evokes lathes, glazed ceramics, bright colors, sinuous lines, and Moorish heads: Caltagirone.

The very same age-old mastery in crafting living and evocative objects, which can be felt in every alley of Caltagirone, underpins every single piece we create. Our goal is to bring a more cosmopolitan and contemporary vision, enriching tradition, where possible, with our globetrotting experiences. We've dispensed with frills, highlighting the shapes, colors, and essence of these artifacts. It's as if the Sicilian Baroque spirit and the restless spirit of the south wanted to meet and merge with the linearity and simplicity of the north, in a collective embrace with Europe, its history, and its peoples.

CALTAGIRONE

An ancient lady who stands out between the earth and the clouds, wise with a thousand-year history that has shaped her appearance and character.

Caltagirone sits on three hills, a heart of clay that the Greeks and Arabs exploited to create what is now universally known as one of Italy's most important ceramic centers. Over the centuries, Caltagirone's ceramics have become a tradition, but to achieve this, they have innovated and drawn from the wonderful melting pot of cultures and experiences that Sicily has represented over the centuries.

A little Greek, a little Arabic, perhaps Byzantine, with hints of Spanish at times, but profoundly Sicilian and Caltagirone, this ceramic is truly unique. It was the visionary artisans of this city, with their creativity and mastery—melting, daring, and mastering the material—who created this extraordinary cultural legacy that today represents Caltagirone ceramics. And because this perpetual flow of change and fusion has never ceased, Crita offers her personal vision of terracotta. A declaration of love made of clay.
